Hawaii
Laurie and Michael met in 1974 in Mexico. Michael, the bus driver, said that it was love at first sight when he saw Laurie doing backhandsprings to entertain children.
It was the 70s, and the two ran off to Hawaii to start a life together. Since Laurie was only 17, her parents had to sign off on the marriage. It was down to the wire when that document was signed.
Married at sunrise on the beach of Hawaii, their marriage rings were strands of their hair intertwined in resin. A friend baked their cake. And through sickness and lean financial days, their marriage lasted until Michael's passing in 2018.
